If you are starting out in banking, one title covers nearly a quarter of the branch openings we tracked, and one bank posts it.
Our agents read 220+ MNC career pages on 9 September 2026, our last full sweep, and pulled close to 23,000 openings. 3,138 of them were frontline sales and branch banking roles in India. Below is the data by place.
If you are starting out, start with Business Development Associate
Business Development Associate (RB-LS) at Axis Bank accounts for 24.3% of the lane on its own, with 763 openings. Every one of those postings is entry level, with an average minimum of 1.0 year of experience.
Axis posts the next three titles too: Branch Relationship Officer (11.0%), Assistant Manager Sales – Corporate Salary (6.0%) and Teller (3.8%). Further down come Inbound Sales Representative – Voice at Accenture (1.6%), Relationship Manager – Priority Banking at Axis (1.1%) and Elite Banker – Branch Banking at Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.8%). Titles are the employers' own wording.
If you want an entry-level role, Kolkata asks for the least
In Kolkata, 71.4% of openings are entry level, with an average minimum of 1.7 years. Delhi NCR follows at 51.5% and Chennai at 47.8%. Kolkata is also where Axis posts its largest share, at 89.2%.
Bengaluru sits at the other end among the metros: 25.8% entry level and 4.3 years on average. Outside the big metros, 6.9% of openings are entry level, at 3.6 years. The named cities in that group are Surat (17), Indore (12), Rajkot (9), Jaipur (7), Kochi (7), Lucknow (6), Vadodara (6) and Jalandhar (5).
Two in three openings come from one bank
Axis Bank posted 65.1% of the lane. Kotak Mahindra Bank posted 10.4%. The remaining 24.5% is spread across more than 60 employers.
Axis leads in every big metro, from 62.2% of openings in Mumbai to 89.2% in Kolkata. Outside the big metros, the picture flips: Axis's share is 0.0% and Kotak's is 51.9%.
The rest of the map
This single role category produced 3,138 openings. Technology, split across four categories, produced 6,270, so frontline banking comes to roughly half of it. The work in the lane is branch banking: sales desks, relationship managers and tellers.
What these employers are asking for
These employers are asking for sales (54.8%, 1,721 openings), banking (40.1%, 1,258), lead generation (38.4%, 1,206), financial services (37.0%, 1,160), business development (32.2%, 1,012), banking products (25.1%, 789), relationship building (21.8%, 683), mutual funds (18.5%, 582), general insurance (17.9%, 561) and retail banking (16.6%, 520).
Sales leads by a wide margin, and the whole skill list reads like a sales job. Product knowledge sits alongside the selling: mutual funds and general insurance each appear in nearly one in five openings.
