Frequently asked

Which sector is hiring most in India in 2026?

BFSI — banking, financial services and insurance — is the largest, with 8,182 active roles against 3,932 for the technology sector, a 2.1× gap. Based on 34,959 India roles read from company career pages between 27 April and 4 June 2026.

Is finance hiring in India right now?

Yes. BFSI is the single biggest industry in the data, and eight of the fifteen largest employers are banks: Axis Bank (1,000 roles), Barclays (951), DBS Bank (840), State Street (772), Kotak (765), Wells Fargo (741) and Deutsche Bank (704).

Can a software engineer get hired in BFSI?

Yes. Many BFSI roles are technology, risk and analytics jobs inside global banks' India captive centres — Software Engineering accounts for 972 roles, Risk & Compliance 739, and Data & Analytics 467. For a mid-career tech candidate it is a lateral move, not a downgrade.

Which city leads BFSI hiring in India?

Bengaluru leads BFSI hiring with 1,299 roles, followed by Pune (969) and Mumbai (772).

If you read the feeds, India hiring sounds like a tech story. In our data it is a banking story. Across more than 35,000 active India roles read from company career pages between 27 April and 4 June 2026, BFSI — banking, financial services and insurance — is the single largest industry with 8,182 active roles. The technology sector everyone writes about sits at 3,932. Banks are hiring at more than twice the volume of pure tech.

This matters most for the people who feel the market has gone quiet. The demand moved sectors more than it disappeared.

TL;DR

  • BFSI is the biggest sector: 8,182 roles, against 3,932 for technology — a 2.1× gap.
  • Eight of the fifteen largest employers are banks: Axis Bank 1,000, Barclays 951, DBS Bank 840, State Street 772, Kotak 765, Wells Fargo 741, Deutsche Bank 704.
  • The roles are not all finance: Finance 2,174, Sales & Marketing 1,782, Software Engineering 972, Risk & Compliance 739, Data & Analytics 467.
  • Bengaluru (1,299) leads BFSI hiring, then Pune (969) and Mumbai (772).

If you have spent months applying only to tech-sector roles and hearing nothing, this table is the explanation — you may be fishing in the third-deepest pond and reading it as an empty market.

A large share of these "banking jobs" are technology, risk and analytics roles inside global banks' India captive centres — Barclays, Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo and others staffing here alongside domestic volume from Axis Bank and Kotak. So a software engineer, a data analyst or a risk specialist has a real path in, often through the captive centre rather than the front office. For a mid-career tech candidate tired of the silence, that is a lateral move, not a downgrade. This week: pull five BFSI postings that match your skills and check how your CV maps before you apply anywhere else.

Methodology

Myro's jobs dataset, active roles read from company career pages, scrape window 27 April to 4 June 2026: 34,959 active roles across 247 employers and 49 industries. BFSI = 8,182 roles tagged to banking, financial services and insurance; the technology comparison uses 3,932 technology-sector roles. Industry tags are per employer and per posting, so a global bank's tech centre counts under BFSI. A point-in-time snapshot, not a complete count.
